Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the efficacy and safety of radiofrequency electrocautery for conjunctival diseases combined with dry eye syndrome.

Methods: Twenty eyes of 16 patients with conjunctival diseases underwent the high frequency electrocautery for conjunctival diseases. Conjunctival evaluation, tear break-up time (TBUT), Schirmer tear production test, ocular surface disease index (OSDI) and visual analogue pain score (VAS) were performed preoperatively, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months after surgery.

Results: Mean age was 53.9 ¡¾ 19.4 years. There were 2 males and 14 females. Nine eyes with conjunctivochalasis, 6 eyes with chemosis, 1 eye with conjunctival inclusion cyst, 2 eyes with conjunctival nevi and 2 eyes with lymphangiectasis were included. Conjunctival diseases were improved and no severe complication occurred. TBUT increased and OSDI decreased 3 months after surgery. There were no difference in Schirmer test and VAS.

Conclusions: High frequency electrocautery is an effective, safe and simple treatment for conjunctival diseases combined with dry eye syndrome.
